Garlic

I planted 50 garlic plants last night. You plant it in fall, let it develop some roots, then harvest the following summer. Yummy!

Wow, three blog posts in three days. Garlic question: do you plant garlic seeds, or do you plant cloves, or something else?

Plant one clove to get one bulb.

Do you need to do anything with the clove prior to planting it? How big do garlic plants get?

It depends on who you talk to. There is this big garlic guru guy in Texas that goes through a whole process of soaking them in some solution and peeling them, then dipping them in alcohol. He also talks about doing this to avoid fungus and pests. I think that stuff is only really necessary if you have those problems. I just stuck mine in the dirt about 4 inches deep and covered them with 4-6" of leaf mulch. I guess they will produce a pretty large root system during the fall. I planted 3 varieties and the largest is the German White. I guess the leaves get to be about 4 feet tall.
